Strictly Bluegrass Jam

If you find Heidi's Bluegrass Jamming Workshop too easy, it could be time to move downstairs and play bluegrass at a quicker pace.

We meet in the basement room, below the Jamming Workshop. We generally warm up and start playing around 1:00 PM and play until the tunes run out. Bluegrass instruments only. We often have one Bass player, to keep us in time. The bass player is arranged ahead of time. If you have interest in playing bass, contact Jim Hanaway to see if there is a need. We do not choose to have a 2nd bass player at this jam. All skill levels are welcome.

I'd say the pace is a medium or mid-tempo jam. Come and join us, and try it out. We follow basic bluegrass jam rules: be in tune, watch a guitar player for chord changes, etc. We pass breaks around the circle, so everyone that wants a break, gets the opportunity on each song/tune. We also pass around leading a bluegrass song or tune. As jam tradition, you can always take a break or lead a song/tune, or simply "pass" when it comes around to you. No pressure.

There is no "set list" or book of songs/tunes we follow. It's different every month, depending on who is playing, and what they want to call. It's a great opportunity to learn new bluegrass songs/tunes, try a break on the fly, or practice something you've been working on at home, in a group setting.

Although I like many types of music, I started this jam, so I'd have a place to play and practice Bluegrass music. If it's not your thing, you may want to start another jam, in one of the many open rooms. Meanwhile, we'll be playing, singing and picking Bluegrass, whenever BOTMA meets: 3rd Sundays, September through May (no meeting December).
